Anyone who has been to Pitlochry in the summer months, will know it has truly fabulous floral displays, hanging baskets and gardens. Well, the people who are responsible for this are Pitlochry in Bloom.
Pitlochry in Bloom make a huge difference to Pitlochry each and every year. As a Chelsea Pensioner on a visit to Pitlochry said "The wonderful flowers and hanging baskets make the town looked loved and that people here, take a real pride in where they live!"
Pitlochry in Bloom is a volunteer organisation, as its web site says "a very pro-active group, we have a committee of 12, assisted by many "Friends" and helpers who tend to all the feature beds in Pitlochry on a weekly basis through the summer and autumn."
Pitlochry in Bloom events range from the fabulous Green Park Hotel Coffee Morning, to Secret Garden Open Days (when locals open up their gardens for 1 day only), also the popular visit by Santa and his Reindeer each December (supported by Bells Blair Athol Distillery).
Pitlochry in Bloom hold fund raising events throughout the year, all funds go towards the flowers and gardens to keep the town up to its award winning status.
Pitlochry in Bloom has been awarded more than 50 awards since it started back in 1993, including the RHS (Royal Hoticultural Society) Gold Award on three occasions, 209, 2010, and 2011.
In 2013 Pitlochry in Bloom are the driving force behind Sesquicentennial (150 years) of the Highland Mainline Railway in Pitlochry, having successfully been awarded £25,000 by Heritage Lottery. Scottish Rail has also played a big part, thanks to Pitlochry in Bloom and has given the train station a total repainting - it looks truly fabulous!
